This song was composed based on an unpublished poem by J.R.R Tolkien.
Here is what is inscribed at the beginning:
"Leaf-light verses for fair Lórien—soft-spoken as starlight on living water"

Under the mallorn the moon breathes white,
Silver on silver, the nightingale sighs;
Leaf-clad beloved, your hand alights
Where lissom dreams in my heart abide.

O star-kind maiden, O river-bright,
Sing once, and silence is cloaked in gold;
Your glance, a gleam on the edge of sight,
Turns mortal sorrow to Elvenold.

Still falls the dew on timeless boughs,
Still beats my heart to your pulse of years;
Till the last leaf loosens, till final vows
Are whispered away with the turning spheres.
