To mark the 150th anniversary of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s birth in 2025, we are thrilled to unveil the first-ever recording of his Four Characteristic Waltzes – a set of charming, elegant, and expressive arrangements by the composer for violin and piano that deserve to be heard!

Coleridge-Taylor, a groundbreaking composer of mixed African and English heritage, was a musical celebrity in his time, celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic. Yet much of his music, beyond Hiawatha, has been unjustly neglected—until now.

Violinist Maya Magub and pianist Matthew Schellhorn bring these delightful waltzes to life, exploring their beauty, passion, and subtle genius. Each waltz tells its own story, full of character and contrast—an essential addition to the repertoire of English music.
