Mags and Dougie recorded our version of this beautiful song in February this year (2019) - it was written around 1808 by Robert Tannahill, and covered by the Tannahill Weavers and Dougie Maclean amongst others.

In 1807 Tannahill obtained enough subscribers to publish his one and only book, which sold out within weeks. In 1810, the poet James Hogg came to visit him in Paisley, showing how high his reputation had become. Tannahill was prone to depression and by May 1810 some of his friends were worried about him. A projected new work was rejected by two publishers. On May 17th 1810 he committed suicide.
