1989 was an amazing year. For me. And in general. I had forgotten just how much that was the case until my recent post of The BeeGees "One".
And that was never more true than when it came to movies. I challenge anyone to show me a better year for movies in the last 50 years. Not just a handful, but hit after hit after hit. Classics. Field Of Dreams, Driving Miss Daisy, Glory, The Abyss, Dead Poets Society, When Harry Met Sally, Batman, The Little Mermaid... and on and on.
And that included one of my favorites. The Fabulous Baker Boys. What a movie. An ordinary story line that was turned into a superb movie through sublime acting.
And accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack that showcased jazz music, especially jazz music that has been the staple of lounges and small clubs for decades.
Wonderful standards performed, in some cases, by a pianist and a vocalist. Maybe a percussionist.
Which brings me to this post and this video. Dave Grusin played exquisite piano on this soundtrack and, on this tune, Michelle Pfeiffer delivers a wonderful rendition of this classic standard.
Their wonderful rendition of My Funny Valentine is accompanied here by a collage of scenes from the movie that perfectly accompany the song.
Movies and music....
Does it get any better than this?!
